Sci-Fi and (Non-Sci-Fi) Aromatherapy Essential Oils to Help You Relax

Introduction

Many of us have been experiencing a tremendous amount of both psychological and physical stress due to the current global pandemic. As we adjust to this new normal, finding healthy ways to cope will become increasingly important. The use of essential oils through aromatherapy has been proven to treat a wide variety of mental and physical problems from stress and anxiety, to headaches and digestive issues. While they do not offer a miracle, they do provide us with a safe and effective way to cope during these unprecedented times.

Mercury Retrograde Blend

What is Mercury Retrograde? Three or four times each year, the planet mercury is said to move in the opposite direction from planet Earth. People have said that these planetary motions lead to “mercurial” minds, and even disrupt our technologies, leading to confusion and chaos. This essential oil blend was created by Plant Therapy to encourage normal communication and help create a more grounded environment during these chaotic times. This blend is a mix of oils that are known to promote clarity, confidence, clear communication, and patience.

Lavender

Lavender is one of the most studied essential oils used for relaxation. Also known for its floral scent, Lavender is a must-have if you regularly find yourself feeling stressed and anxious. It has been proven to restore the nervous system by lowering blood pressure, heart rate, and skin temperature. It could also be used as a great relaxing massage oil, by applying it to your temples and wrists with a rollerball.

Neroli

Extracted from the flowers of bitter orange trees, Neroli emits a rich, floral scent. It can be used for a range of things, including anxiety relief. Ancient Egyptian priests used Neroli essential oil to heal their bodies, minds, and souls. Acting as a sedative, it regulates the metabolic system releasing feelings of anger, irritability, and worry. Its soothing effect makes it the perfect ingredient in body lotions and cosmetics as well.

Bergamot

Bergamot oil, extracted from the citrus bergamia fruit is one of the most unique citrus oils. It produces a calming and uplifting aroma, making it ideal for soothing the soul. Very commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine to enhance the flow of energy, fight bacterial infections, and support digestive health. Bergamot oil can also be used in the shower by applying to the skin to experience its calming aroma while enjoying its purifying skin benefits.

Ylang Ylang

Extracted from the flower of a tropical tree in Southeast Asia, Ylang Ylang oil promotes feelings of comfort and joy. Its rich floral aroma with hints of rose and jasmine has been shown to be relaxing and decrease blood pressure in small studies. Diffuse a few drops of ylang ylang oil in the evenings to create a relaxing environment in your home or to a warm bath to alleviate stress and tension.

Jasmine

Jasmine oil has a sweet-smelling floral aroma that is extracted from flowers of the jasmine plant. Inhaling it is said to improve your mood, anxiety, sleep, nausea, and pain. Unlike some other oils used for anxiety, jasmine oil is thought to calm the nervous system without causing sleepiness. Diffuse a few drops into a diffuser and allow its calming effects to fill the room.
