Explore Sutro Baths
The Sutro Baths are a reminder of the vision held by Adolph Sutro, entrepreneur and former mayor of San Francisco. The public bathhouse was built to form six saltwater pools and one freshwater pool. Incoming tides would fill the saltwater pools and an underground turbine would help replenish them during low tide every five hours. This impressive feat of engineering was a classic for San Francisco natives and visitors alike. However, the remnants were destroyed by a fire and the ruins remain a sight to behold.
